WORKING HORSES

Micki is a therapeutic riding horse

Micki is a 14 year old Paint Breeding Stock Chestnut mare, and our “Steady Eddie”. She waits patiently while staff lift riders on her back from their wheelchairs, or she can take our more mobile riders for a fun trot. Thanks to Jill Muthig for donating her to us. P.S. Have you noticed the "seahorse" on her face?

April is a therapeutic riding horse

April is a 19 year old 14.3 HH chestnut Morgan. She took a break for a while to recover from colic and problems with Cushing's, but she is back and working hard. April has a great heart and likes to work at her own pace. She is a “babysitter” to the other horses and people. She knows when to walk carefully and when to step on out of the way. She is owned by Sandy Sandee.

Jesse is a therapeutic riding horse

Jesse is our funny, precarious little gelding who loves to play and try to make friends with the other horses as you can see in the above photo. He is hanging out at the fence with his favorite friend, Lucky the palomino. Jesse was donated to BEAMING by the Twomey family in memory of their daughter, Hannah. He is only four years old and has adapted very well to being a therapy horse.

Scout is a therapeutic riding horse

Scout, an  "eager walker", is a beautiful, sturdy and proud little paint horse owned by our volunteer coordinator, Sue George. He does very well with kids as well as adults. Teaming up with April, he is a member our Horses, Hearts and Heroes progam and our military veterans ride him with pride. He is very patient with flags blowing in his face!

Lucky is a therapeutic riding horse

Lucky is a gorgeous palomino quarter horse, in a pony's body. Though she is little, she is a very sturdy horse with a heart of gold. She is gentle and loving with our riders, but a little bossy in the field!  Her favorite pasture buddy is Jesse. Lucky is on lease with us from Teagan.

RETIRED HORSES

Onyx is a therapeutic riding horse

Onyx - yes that's right. Our handsome big guy has taken early retirement.  Due to an asthma-like condition, Onyx will be taking it easy for a while.  He was a great asset to our Horses, Hearts, and Heroes program for military veterans and always held his head high to honor the soldiers he carried so gently. We wish the best to Onyx and hope that he recovers soon. He is owned and loved by Alyssa Kohls.

Lady is a retired therapeutic riding horse

Lady, a 27 year old bay Arab Saddlebred cross, on lease from Sandi Snow, officially retired on August 7th, 2010. She gave her last lesson on August 6th with her gentle, patient nature. A BEAMING favorite, Lady will be missed by her little riders, and by the staff and volunteers. Lady will be a pasture buddy on a nice, quiet farm.

Tipper is a retired therapeutic riding horse

Tipper is a 23 year old paint mare. She retired on September 2, 2010 and is settling in with her new family and pasture buddies - llamas, alpacas, mini-donkeys, chickens and many more barnyard friends. Tipper moved slowly and gently which was great for our timid and new riders. Donated by Karen Kennedy, she served BEAMING from the beginning and was a favorite of many riders, especially little girls.

Katie is a retired therapeutic riding horse

Katie, a former BEAMING volunteer, is a 19 year old quarter horse bay mare. Sore feet forced her retirement and she is now residing on a quiet farm with a pasture buddy. She was also donated by Karen Kennedy.

Molly is a retired therapeutic riding horse

Molly is a 25 year old flea bitten gray Arab who worked for the spring session, but has moved to a quiet farm where she can enjoy retirement. Molly is a sweet horse with the most gorgeous brown eyes. She will be missed. Thanks to her owner, Meghan Ercegovac, for letting us get to know Molly.

Bandit is a retired therapeutic riding horse

Bandit is no longer at BEAMING, but served us well. A 23 year old gray Arab gelding, he has a sensitive, fun personality that was perfect for many of our boys. Bandit loved to go fast. He was on lease from one of our veterinarians, Dr. Jamie Zarda.
